Not too long ago I started making my own yogurt. I’ve been trying to include more homemade foods to our fridge and pantry, and yogurt seemed like an easy enough addition to my repertoire!
Making plain yogurt is actually pretty simple and it taste delicious, but sometimes it is nice to add some flavor. My go-to were typically maple syrup or honey but my husband is a big fan of jam. I wouldn’t mind the jam if I didn’t feel like I was eating sugar by the spoon full.

I mean, I was in no denial that sugar was a big part of jam but after making some jams and jellies as favors to our wedding I was shocked by how much sugar actually went into to!
This chia jam is a nice substitute for your usual jam and while I still use natural sugar to flavor it, you could skip it all together and you would have yourself a no-sugar added jam!
Using chia seeds will help your jam thicken without having to use pectin and are also great for your health. They are a good source of fiber, with essential fatty acids and some protein. Now, I’m on board with some jam in my yogurt! You can use any fruit you desire, fresh or frozen.
For this recipe I used frozen berries so keep in mind if you are using fresh fruits you may need to use a little less chia seeds.
Berry lime Chia Jam
- 2 cups frozen berries
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- 3 tbsp chia seeds
- Combine the berries, lime juice and honey into a small saucepot and heat up on medium heat until the juices are released.
- Mash the fruits with the back of a fork.
- Pour into a mason jar and add the chia seeds.
- Give it a good stir and put in the fridge for at least 4 hours. Best overnight.
